Vishay has announced SMD flat chip temperature sensors that offer advanced thin film technology in three standard chip sizes — 0603, 0805, and 1206. The devices feature short reaction times of ≤5s (in air) and a temperature range from -55°C up to +155°C. Thanks to a highly controlled platinum thin film manufacturing process, these new Vishay Beyschlag flat chip sensors offer an outstanding stability of temperature characteristic of < ±0.04%, even in the long term, over a wide temperature range, allowing precise temperature measurements in automotive electronics, industrial electronics, telecommunication systems, and medical equipment.
Featuring B and 2B tolerance classes, the devices provide a linear temperature characteristic of +3850ppm/K, and offer resistance values of 100Ω, 500Ω, and 1kΩ, with other values available on request.

The PTS 0603, PTS 0805, and PTS 1206 sensors support lead (Pb)-free soldering and are suitable for processing on automatic SMD assembly systems in large-scale applications using wave, reflow, or vapor phase processes. A special coating protects against electrical, mechanical, and climatic impacts.

Terminations for the lead (Pb)-free devices are pure tin on nickel plating, and the immunity of the plating against tin whisker growth has been proven under extensive testing. The sensors comply with the CEFIC-EECA-EICTA list of legal restrictions on hazardous substances and are tested in accordance with IEC 60751 and IEC 6006.

Samples and production quantities of the new flat chip temperature sensors are available now, with lead times of ten to twelve weeks for larger orders.
