Samsung using test equipment from Rohde & Schwarz to produce USB modems for world’s first commercial LTE networks

Samsung, the Korean electronics manufacturer, is the first company worldwide to deliver USB modems for commercial LTE networks. To meet its production standards, the company is using test equipment from Rohde & Schwarz.

The R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester is the only instrument on the market that offers comprehensive signaling functionality: It simulates a base station in operating mode, enabling high-precision tests of the transmitter’s signal quality and the receiver’s sensitivity in signaling mode. This ensures that all processes, including log-on in the network and connection setup, function in line with standards.

Manufacturers definitely make the right decision by equipping the R&S CMW500 with multitechnology capacity: Manufacturers and network operators can test their products for full functionality at a very early stage, and end users will clearly benefit from LTE and other standards, states Anton Messmer, Director of the Mobile Radio Testers Subdivision. The first LTE networks are scheduled to be launched in 2010.
