Groundbreaking support of IEEE 802.11 ac/n/a/g/b Over-the-Air (OTA) testing has been announced. It comprises an enhanced solution that integrates the Anritsu Wireless Connectivity Test Set MT8862A with the CTIA-compliant ETS-Lindgren EMQuest EMQ-100 Antenna Measurement Software.

The accurate and flexible turnkey solution now supports 802.11 ac/n/a/g/b WLAN standards, providing device developers and manufacturers with a single solution to characterise and validate designs in accordance with current and emerging versions of the 802.11 standards.

The MT8862A is the first solution for testing 802.11 in ac/n/a/g/b devices in full signalling mode with built-in communications protocols.

It can conduct fast and accurate RF receiver and transmitter measurements for WLAN without the need of any device control. It can also perform end-to-end data throughput tests, as well as capture real-time protocol messages.

“Anritsu and ETS-Lindgren continue to develop leading-edge test solutions that enable developers and manufacturers to efficiently and confidently produce a new generation of mobile devices that are in line with market demands,” said Paul Innis, Vice President and General Manager of Anritsu. “We are committed to developing solutions that meet and exceed future industry and carrier eco-system OTA test requirements.

“Our customers rely on our expertise to provide turnkey, world-class wireless OTA test solutions that include the test chamber, and all associated software and hardware. With our in-house test capabilities, we can document the quality of the Anritsu Wireless Connectivity Test Set MT8862A and its functionality with our wireless test systems,” said Jari Vikstedt, Manager, Wireless Solutions, with ETS-Lindgren. “Recently we’ve had more requests for OTA test solutions per the IEEE 802.11ac standard. With the newly developed MT8862A, we can meet our customers’ expectations.”

The MT8862A and EMQuest EMQ-100 provide a comprehensive solution that can test devices based on revisions of IEEE 802.11 technologies.

Specialised calibration and validation methods are supported for WLAN OTA testing and other analysis, including TRP/TIS.

The MT8862A is a multi-version IEEE 802.11 instrument with the capability for wireless device calibration, WLAN RF parametric testing and functional testing, including Network Mode. IEEE 802.11ac/n/a/b/g revisions are all supported for testing the transmitter and receiver performance of a multi-revision WLAN device.

“Currently the CTIA only requires testing up to IEEE 802.11n, but that will change in the near future. With the built-in support for advanced IEEE 802.11 standards in the MT8862A our customers will be ready when that time arrives,” said Vikstedt.

ETS-Lindgren’s EMQuest EMQ-100 offers a wide range of fully parameterised test methods for measuring basic antenna performance metrics, as well as testing both radiated and conducted performance of various wireless devices.

It can be used to analyse antennas in stand-alone applications, or to test an embedded antenna system and radio module against any of the industry standard OTA radiated performance test requirements.
