At Mobile World Congress, Rohde & Schwarz and Sequans Communications will showcase functional testing of LTE modules for IoT using the R&S CMW290 functional radio communication tester and an LTE IoT module based on the Sequans Calliope LTE Category 1 chipset. This joint demonstration highlights the companies’ commitment to the Internet of Things (IoT) market.

The functional radio communication tester simulates the LTE network and sets up a connection between the Sequans LTE IoT module and a server. Data is sent from the Sequans DUT to the server via the R&S CMW290. The tester verifies the RF parameters of the LTE connection and data throughput and power consumption versus the LTE connectivity status.

This solution enables users in development, quality management and production to comprehensively test the correct functioning of IoT modules in a defined network.

In 2015, Sequans introduced, certified and deployed Calliope, the world's first LTE Category 1 chipset for the Internet of Things.

By optimising Calliope to meet the performance, size, power consumption and cost requirements of the IoT market, Sequans has enabled device makers to leverage the technology advantages and longevity of LTE networks using modules that are available at sub-3G price points.

Rohde & Schwarz has specifically designed its economical R&S CMW290 functional radio communication tester to meet the requirements of integrators in the M2M/IoT sector and their mainly cost-sensitive applications. As a member of the well-established R&S CMW platform, the R&S CMW290 supports all cellular and non-cellular standards.
