A new range of high-performance miniature variable attenuators covering microwave frequencies up to 26.5GHz has been introduced by Link Microtek. Manufactured by Narda Microwave-East, an L3 Communications company, the variable attenuators are suitable for use in a variety of military and commercial applications, including communications, test, radar and electronic-warfare systems.

The devices feature an adjustable attenuation range of up to 30dB, a low insertion loss – typically 1dB maximum – and VSWRs ranging from 1.5:1 to 1.7:1. Maximum power input is specified as 5W average and typically 3kW peak.

Some models are equipped with SMA female connectors, while others use 3.5mm or N-type connectors. On all versions, the attenuation level is adjusted via a screwdriver slot on a central shaft, with the position fixed by means of a locking nut.

Capable of operating in ambient temperatures as high as 105degC without degradation, the new attenuators are packaged in rugged housings ranging in size from 63.5 x 50.8 x 14.2mm to 65.2 x 73.7 x 18.0mm and weighing from 160 to 300g.
