IZT, a technology leader in innovative high-performance products for capturing, modifying and generating radio signals, has announced a state-of-the-art portable monitoring RF recorder for mobile and telematic applications.
The HF-V/UHF-SHF receiver covers the frequency range from 9KHz to 3GHz, and offers 24MHz instantaneous bandwidth on each of its four channels. The IZT R3301 is easy to control using the integrated 30-cm high-resolution touch screen, which provides simultaneous recording and monitoring of all four channels.

An integrated GPS receiver serves as a highly robust time and location reference. The IZT R3301 automatically synchronizes the four built-in channels. Multiple R3301s can be synchronized using an external 10MHz source and 1PPS trigger with the optional IZT R3000-TRIG accessory. Both methods support the company’s wideband record and replay system IZT RecPlay.

RF emissions are extremely low according to CISPR 25 (EN 55025). The IZT R3301 has an integrated server for data recording and four swappable hard-drives, each providing more than 500MB capacity. This corresponds to more than six hours of continuous recording with up to 24 mega-samples per second (MSa/sec).

“IZT’s RF recording system is based on the latest receiver technology. It allows us, for example, to capture an FM broadcast signal which is 80 dB lower than a nearby transmitter”, explains Rainer Perthold, Managing Director of IZT.“ We achieve this by relying on our high performance professional wideband receiver technology, giving us superior phase noise, linearity and dynamic range.”

Customers can use the compact and lightweight recorder as a turnkey solution for in-vehicle testing. It is small enough to be taken as carry-on luggage with most airlines, with outer dimensions of 454x335x244mm and a weight of approximately 17kg. The IZT R3301 operates from a 10-30 Volt DC supply. Short-term battery backup ensures uninterrupted power supply.

For customers interested in a complete system, IZT recommends the IZT R3301 in combination with the IZT S1000 signal generator, which is specifically designed for replaying complex signals comprising a large number of carriers. Customers wishing to generate controlled reception scenarios can edit the signals in real-time.

The post-processing software available from IZT allows users to review and edit the recorded data in offline mode. It also allows signals to be extracted or combined, such as the extraction of time and frequency signals in the spectrogram, the conversion of the signal into a player file with adequate sample rate, and the concatenation of recordings in the time and in the frequency domain. This functionality enables the recording of frequency bands larger than 20MHz, such as DVB-T, in several adjacent intervals, and provides the ability to combine the recordings to a single file with large bandwidth.

The IZT R3301 is available now.
