Schaffner has updated its Modula EMC test system. It can now be remotely controlled from distances up to 30m using an optional WiFi enabled PDA or PC with wireless LAN.
This simplifies measurements in both laboratories and on site locations where cables and defined grounding points may make access difficult. The large colour touch screen of the PDA clearly displays large amounts of information, allows test routines to be called up from the system library, make simple adjustments of test parameters and saving to memory of user-specific tests.

Modula is an open architecture system allowing expandable and obsolescence–proof testing. Test functions may be simply configured to individual users needs by selecting the appropriate modules. Additional modules may be added by the user at any time should test requirements change. All modules are individually calibrated reducing downtime and simplifying maintenance. The modular construction ensures compliance with changes to standards may be accommodated quickly and cost effectively.

As all system components are self-contained function modules, configuration, accessibility and interrelationships are automatically made available to the user when installed. Using an industry standard system bus for internal and external access to every function via Ethernet or Wireless LAN under Windows™ software control based on LabView™ ensures the greatest possible flexibility. Modula’s test library may be continually updated to keep in step with relevant standards and individual test routines may be easily created from pre-programmed standard tests.

Test reports are prepared automatically by Modula and include EUT response if the electrical monitoring facility is used. The standard report is suitable for most QA and EMC Conformity test certification requirements. Test data may also be exported in Word™ format and to external databases. Comments on test procedures may be added in real-time and included in reports.

The Modula mainframe is a tabletop case measuring 238x 440x491mm and has a rack mounting option. The range of standard test modules for Modula currently available includes; Surge generator to EN 61000-4-5, Burst generator to EN 61000-4-4, power quality tester to IEC 61000-4-11 & -29. A very wide range of accessories to meet all EMC testing requirements is also available, these include both manual and automatic step transformers, handheld ESD generator up to 15KV, burst coupling networks, automatic single and double variacs, manual and automatic interface/amplifier for magnetic antennas, high voltage digital probe, 3 phase coupling networks to 100A, a wide range of test antennas and remote safety switch for fixed installation.
