Energy Micro and Hitex Devepment Tools have announced the availability of a self-test library for the ARM Cortex-M3 based EFM32 Gecko microcontroller family. The free of charge library was developed, tested and pre-certified according to the IEC 60335 and IEC 60730 standards.
Intended to prevent unsafe operation of the controlled application, the Class B self-test library supports household appliances that require certification according to the latest IEC 60335 or IEC 60730 standards and their respective EN alternatives. The library contains detailed tests and diagnostic methods and ensures safe operation of the microcontroller. The free availability of the library dramatically simplifies the effort to obtain Class B certification.

“We are pleased to work with Hitex as an expert in functional safety testing,” said Oyvind Grotmol, VP of Simplicity at Energy Micro. “Designers using the energy-efficient EFM32 Gecko microcontrollers now benefit from a self-test library that meets the requirements of Class B certification, thus enabling faster time-to-market.”

“Hitex is proud to partner with Energy Micro as the manufacturer of the energy-friendly EFM32 microcontrollers,” said Frank Grobe, Managing Director at Hitex Development Tools. “The self-test library eases the development of safety-critical applications and significantly reduces the certification process.” In addition Hitex offers consulting, development and test services for fast and reliable certification of the final product.
