Clare Instruments, part of the Seaward Group, has recently upgraded its bespoke custom electrical test design service for manufacturers of electrical and electronic products. Clare has developed a broad range of fully programmable electrical safety and functional test instruments that can be adapted and integrated for use in bespoke test systems, using proprietry software such as LabView.
By linking these testers with purpose designed test fixtures and special enclosures, customised electrical test systems can be integrated effectively with production line processes and quality control requirements, significantly reducing test times and improving productivity.

In this way, purpose-designed electrical test solutions from Clare can help manufacturers within all sectors of electrical and electronic products meet international technical standards and ISO quality traceability needs.

Clare’s technical expertise in electrical safety testing is combined with engineering and system integration skills as part of a complete turnkey service to meet customers exact test requirements. These systems will typically incorporate the product function tests, to further improve the automation of the process, and dramatically increase process productivity.

In many cases, the functional power requirements of some electrical and electronic products will dictate that they cannot be tested directly using standard off the shelf equipment. Clare’s bespoke service overcomes such problems and has been used to design and build systems for functional load tests up to 100A, in both single and three phase applications, including line leakage measurement.

In addition, test systems can be linked to integral and proprietary industrial label printers for the immediate output of pass/fail test labels for attachment to products. Networking of test stations with central control software and data management systems also means that test data can be made available for full quality and product management control functions. LabView user interface software has also been exploited on larger complex projects.

To ensure that the testing of electrical/electronic products is completely safe for operators, purpose designed test fixtures with safety interlocks can be used as part of fully or semi-automatic test stations, complete with high visibility beacons and other safety accessories required by EN 50191.

The Clare bespoke electrical test design and development service also extends to cover full installation, commissioning, training and high levels of on- going technical support.
