Testing advanced magnetics and control components for today’s vehicle systems and HEVs now places enormous demands on power supplies. Advanced PSUs are already crucial for testing inverter systems, measuring stress-tolerance and eliminating defects; battery management and energy controller systems; simulating variable demand; hybrid system crank-testing with profiles/pulsed waveforms and power-cabling. Imperative is the capability to test in high current, rapid transient, anomaly conditions.
As expectations grow, tomorrow’s electric cars depend on technology that can reproduce complex test conditions and precise field variations, affording highest reliability and fastest performance and Telonic Instruments is meeting the demand. Kikusui’s highly regarded range of reliable power supplies already includes linear amplifiers able to perform powerful tests with the fastest waveform transitions at high currents and outstanding response times. More innovative testing possibilities are now within reach using the new capabilities Kikusui PBZ-series offers.

PBZs exceptional capability to both source and sink power at peak currents (100A when paralleled) plus fast polarity switching enables the toughest testing: energise and de-energising inductive loads, sudden reverse rotations, superimposing AC on DC current and set and maintain phase reliably, still delivering the fastest risetimes (3.5us). This forward to reverse voltage design, known as four-quadrant power bridging, enables more powerful testing for your most demanding automotive developments.

Attractive for power drive development and testing motor characteristics e.g. Torque Optimisation of switched reluctance (SRM) motors; Axial Flux induction coils; Micro Inverter electronics tests including protection testing and lifetime tests; SRM envelope testing by inducing vibration modes, PBZ’s help tune-in to unbalances and root-out fault conditions rapidly in all these areas.

Developers of advanced control systems will also find PBZ’s capabilities attractive in proving Torque Vectoring systems, fast-servos, torque motors (LAT), dynamic field current control of motor/generator test-sets, synchronous or phase-controlled power waveforms e.g. testing In-Wheel Regenerative Braking systems.
