Anritsu Corporation announces its new MD1260A 40/100G Ethernet Analyzer. The MD1260A 40/100G Ethernet Analyzer is an all-in-one measurement platform supporting the 40/100G Ethernet standard. It has built-in functions for generating the 40 and 100 Gbps Ethernet signals, needed for manufacturing quality inspection of transmission equipment and network installation, as well as offering a full range of versatile analysis functions for troubleshooting transmitted signals. It can measure the throughput, frame loss, BER and skew margin of 40/100G signals to quickly evaluate whether transmission equipment and network quality satisfy the requirements of the IEEE802.3ba standard.
Moreover, 40/100 Gbps Ethernet has been designed in cooperation with ITU-T to facilitate the spread of wide-area Ethernet and is compatible with the OTN (Optical Transport Network) standard, supporting the widely used OTU3/OTU4 (Optical channel Transport Unit) specification. Just one MD1260A unit is all that is needed to evaluate transmission equipment and networks supporting both 40/100G Ethernet and OTU3/OTU4. This makes it suitable for the best all-round measurements for next-generation, high-speed communications in one powerful, cost-effective, instrument. The full range of measurement interfaces and options can be tailored to match existing and future applications for maximum cost effectiveness.

40/100G Ethernet and OTU3/OTU4 are expected to become mainstream backbone network technologies for high-speed, large-capacity data services and Anritsu is launching this new instrument to assure the smooth spread of next-generation, high-speed network systems and services.

Development Background
The rapid spread of applications requiring high bandwidth, such as personal video streaming on social networking sites, Video On Demand (VoD), cloud computing, etc., is an increasingly important problem for backbone networks of the world’s telecommunications carriers.
At the moment, they are planning to meet the need for speed by bundling multiple 10G lines but since IEEE released the 40/100G standard, it seems likely that future global networks will adopt 40/100G as the new standard. Anritsu has used its wealth of experience and know-how in gigabit Ethernet measurement technologies to develop this new MD1260A 40/100G Ethernet Analyzer supporting all the evaluation measurements required by 40/100G transmission and network equipment.
