Outdoor noise measurements are now fully supported in Brüel & Kjær’s Type 2250, 2270 and 2250L sound level meters, with a new Weather Station Kit for measuring noise and weather parameters simultaneously. Weather conditions significantly affect the propagation of sound and therefore affect measured noise levels.
Wind speed and direction must be taken into account when measuring noise outdoors - and consequently most standards governing the measurement of environmental noise define limits for wind speed and direction (e.g. ISO 1996-2:2007).

Weather Station Kit MM-0316-A is designed to fully meet the needs of consultants, by helping them to make environmental noise measurements that document wind conditions during the measurement period. And to be sure of the legal compliance of their measurements, as they make them, instead of identifying the ‘legal’ portions of their logging profile afterwards.

The kit’s lightweight sensor connects directly to the sound level meter, from where it also draws its power, eliminating the need for additional batteries. The kit includes the adaptors needed to mount the weather station on standard tripods or poles - and being based on ultrasound technology, it operates well above the upper frequency limit of the microphone, allowing placement close to the measurement position.

The Weather Station Kit completes a comprehensive solution for consultants, designed with their workflow in mind. Wind speed and direction data are captured simultaneously with noise parameters, then - back in the office - they are downloaded onto PC software Measurement Partner Suite BZ-5503, where noise and wind data are viewed on the same graph. Markers can be set automatically on the noise profile, according to the required wind speed and direction criteria, plus noise parameters can be calculated accordingly.

Brüel and Kjær’s Weather Station Kit is based on the Vaisala WINDCAP Ultrasonic Wind Sensor WMT52.
