Designed especially for the requirements of the surveillance sector, ON Semiconductor has launched its AR0237 sensor in an RBG+IR version that is designed for applications needing both visible and near infrared light. With an optical format of 1 / 2.7" and full HD resolution, the rolling shutter CMOS sensor is suited for monitoring under low light conditions. All ON Semiconductor image sensors are available through FRAMOS.

The image sensor AR0237 comes with an active-pixel array of 1928x1088 and captures images in 2MP Full-HD resolution for high-quality video surveillance. For an improved image quality, it captures images in either linear or high dynamic range modes with a rolling-shutter readout; and, includes camera functions like in-pixel binning, windowing, and includes both video and single frame modes. This image sensor is designed for both low light and high dynamic range scene performance, and is programmable through a simple two-wire serial interface.

Sibel Yorulmaz-Cokugur, Senior Account Manager at FRAMOS, highlights the improved colour reproduction of the new ON Semiconductor sensor: “The AR0237 RGB+IR integrates the ability to take daytime colour imaging and nighttime near-IR imaging in one sensor, without the need for a mechanical IR-cut filter shuttle which can be loud, large, expensive to maintain, and can cause refocusing issues. This image sensor is ideal for home security and other monitoring applications where lighting conditions can change drastically during the times when the camera is expected to work.”

The infrared sensor achieves an image rate of up to 60fps in full-HD (linear HiSPi) and can run in a slave mode for external control of the image rate. The sensor is optimised for use in both stereo and 3D cameras and has a variety of interfaces like HiSPi, SLVS, HiVcm, and a parallel data interface. It has an integrated position-based colour and lens shading correction, automatic black-level calibration, and supports 4x4 RGB-IR pixel patterns.

Industry and product experts at FRAMOS are available to support customers with the integration of these new sensors in their applications and projects. In addition, FRAMOS provides services like development support, customisation, and logistics.
