A new vibration-sensing solution optimised to enable smart maintenance of factory equipment to power the next generation of Industry 4.0 applications has been introduced by STMicroelectronics.

It is available at distributor Anglia Components.

The IIS3DWB is a system-in-package MEMS sensor featuring a 3-axis digital vibration sensor with low noise over an ultra-wide and flat frequency range.

The wide bandwidth, low noise, very stable and repeatable sensitivity, together with the capability of operating over an extended temperature range (up to +105 °C), make the device particularly suitable for vibration monitoring in industrial applications.

The 3-axis ultra-wide-bandwidth MEMS accelerometer reliably detects vibrations that are prime indicators of a machine’s service requirements.

Covered under STMicroelectronics 10-year availability assurance for industrial products, the device is optimised for vibration monitoring.

The frequency response of the sensor is tailored to be fully flat and with low noise up to 6kHz and then with a sharp cut off and high attenuation to remove frequency-aliasing concerns and to detect machine-related faults with accuracy and consistency.

Low power consumption help maximise the operating lifetime of independently powered sensor nodes.
