Measurement Specialties releases two new 24-bit ultra-thin digital pressure sensors. These new miniature sensors, with respective heights of one millimeter, were specifically designed for smart phones and other multi-sensor devices.

The MS5607-02BA03 features a 20cm [7.87 inches] altitude resolution while the MS5611-01BA03 can resolve down to 10cm [3.94 inches]. Both products are part of the new award-winning 24-bit digital pressure sensor family which was selected as one of the “Ten Top Sensor Products of 2010” by the Editorial Board of Sensors & Transducers Magazine. They acknowledged that this sensor was in the ”most innovative product among[RMJW1] all published in the Magazine during 2010” category.

Both devices cover a pressure range from 10 to 1300 mbar and boast a fast conversion rate of 0.6ms at 8-bit resolution to 8.3ms at 24-bit resolution. Current consumption of 0.9uA at one conversion per second (8-bit) to 12.5uA (24-bit) and resolution selection per conversion enables optimum application-specific power–performance. The tiny 5x3x1mm footprint make them ideally suitable for embedded use in smart phones, personal navigation devices (PND[RMJW2] ), location trackers, in-building navigation and social alarm applications. This economically-priced sensor is the world’s lowest-power pressure sensing module.

Glen MacGibbon, Executive Vice President of Measurement Specialties, acknowledged that such recognition of our engineering expertise is a “direct result of our strategic decision during the recent economic recession to invest heavily in new product development. The MS5607 is just one of many new innovative products we are introducing to the market.”

“Strong customer interest for this product is due to the fact that its small package size and digital output make it easily embedded into mobile devices where the electronics can be effortlessly interfaced with any microcontroller. Equally important, it also provides an accurate temperature measurement”
