Infineon has announced the launch of its new magnetic position sensor, the XENSIV TLI5590-A6W. This sensor, featuring a wafer-level package, is designed for both linear and angular incremental position detection.

It is qualified for use in industrial and consumer applications, adhering to the JEDEC standard JESD47K. The TLI5590-A6W presents itself as a viable alternative to optical encoders and resolvers, particularly in camera applications for lens positioning to adjust zoom and focus.

The TLI5590-A6W employs Infineon's TMR (Tunnel Magnetoresistance) technology, making it ideal for high-volume sensor systems. This technology ensures the sensor delivers high sensitivity, minimal jitter, and low power consumption. When compared to linear Hall sensors, TMR sensors stand out due to their superior linearity, reduced noise, and lower hysteresis. The high signal-to-noise ratio and reduced power requirements facilitate cost-effective magnetic designs while conserving battery life.

This sensor is adept at accurately detecting rapidly changing directions, thanks to its dual TMR Wheatstone bridges. These bridges respond to the direction and strength of external magnetic fields, producing differential output signals, namely sine and cosine signals, which are essential for relative position measurement.

Housed in an extremely compact 6-ball wafer level package SG-WFWLB-6-3, the TLI5590-A6W boasts a high integration density, significantly reducing the sensor's size. This miniaturisation supports its application in microsystems and position detection. The sensor's precision is noteworthy, offering a high accuracy of better than 10 µm when paired with a suitable linear or rotary magnetic encoder. Additionally, its wide operating temperature range, extending up to +125°C, renders it highly versatile for various industrial and consumer applications. The sensor's resilience to high temperatures further cements its suitability for use in challenging environments.
