The SFC5500 mass flow controller series from Sensirion is based on the microthermal measurement principle and uses Sensirion’s CMOSens MEMS technology.

This allowed Sensirion to build a radical mass flow controller with excellent performance and reliability, which, unlike most other devices on the market, does not drift or require in-service re-calibration.

Thanks to the exceptionally high control range enabled by the flow sensor, the SFC5500 series can cover multiple flow ranges of a traditional mass flow controller in a single device. Coupled with multi-gas calibration and exchangeable fittings, the sensors are the first mass flow controllers on the market available as standard off-the-shelf products.

They suit a wide range of applications, making them available via catalogue distributors. The SFC5500 series complements the SFC5xxx family of Sensirion’s mass flow controllers.

The EK-F5x evaluation kit is a simple test set for the evaluation and qualification of the devices.

Precise measurements for test purposes can be made quickly and inexpensively with this easy-to-use kit.

The evaluation kit contains aRS485-to-USB adapter cable, a 100/240 VAC adapter and a USB stick with PC software.

The sensors offer excellent accuracy and repeatability (0.8%/0.1% of setpoint, respectively) and a wide control range of better than 1000:1.

Settling time is <100 ms. The sensors G ¼″ flange is compatible with a broad range of connectors: Swagelok, Legris, Festo, and more.

They are calibrated for multiple gases and offer a digital interface with temperature-compensated output. Meantime between failures is put at 169 years.

No drift and no re-calibration is required in the field

Target markets are medical equipment, analytical instruments, bioreactors, chemical, plastics, and glass industries and semiconductors

Applications include gas mixing in medical and analytical instruments, flow control in bioreactors and semiconductor applications and process control and industrial automation.

The sensors and evaluation kit are available from distributor Digi-Key Electronics.
