New Contactless Linear and Rotary Position Sensors Launched at Professional Motorsport World Expo 2010

Penny + Giles, designer and manufacturer of high reliability position sensors for the motorsport industry, will be launching a range of new contactless Hall-effect linear and rotary position sensors, at Professional Motorsport World Expo 2010.

Many of the new sensors incorporate a factory programmable Hall effect sensor that provides two outputs, each of which can be programmed individually for angular range, output range and direction.

Rotary Position Sensors

* NRH280DP – This model has a co-molded fully encapsulated sensor system that can withstand high shock and vibration as well as operate up to 170°C, and endure high pressure wash-downs (IP69K). The sensor is activated by a separate magnet, and features a choice of three magnet carrier designs.

* NRH285DR – Similar to the NRH280DP, this model operates from 5Vdc and has two independent power supply and outputs, enabling full redundancy from a very slim package.

* MRH09 – This model is a shaft-operated sensor running in high precision bearings, with a black anodized aluminum housing. The sensor has dual outputs with independent supplies providing redundancy. Custom variants of this style are Penny + Giles’s specialty for premium motorsport applications.

* MRH140 – A special miniature package, designed for steering column position feedback in applications where physical space is a challenge.

Each of these Hall-effect rotary position sensors can provide a measurement range from 20° to 360° in 1° increments. The angular resolution is 0.025% (12bit) of the measurement range, with output signal noise of less than 1mVrms

Linear Position Sensors

* MLH060 – A miniature (6mm diameter) Hall-effect linear sensor and magnet assembly suitable for integration into custom housings or OEM equipment.

* MLH160 – A linear Hall-effect sensor with up to 30mm electrical stroke, specifically designed for use with clutch master cylinders where the magnet can be integrated inside the cylinder rod.

* LVDT + Inline dc/dc driver – A new programmable, ratiometric dc/dc LVDT driver available in a small ‘inline’ package (housed or unhoused) and is particularly suited to suspension or clutch position feedback measurement. The LVDT driver can be integrated in the transducer’s cable, enabling anti-vibration mounting away from hostile operating conditions.
