Compact particulate sensor powers next-gen air monitoring
With 99% of the global population breathing air that fails to meet health standards, air quality monitoring is more crucial than ever. PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 particulates are small enough to penetrate deep into the lungs, significantly impacting human health.
Indoors, these particles can be up to 100 times more concentrated than acceptable limits, especially during cooking and other daily activities. Despite this, most air quality monitoring solutions focus on outdoor air, leaving a critical gap in real-time personal exposure data.
Bosch Sensortec is addressing this challenge with its BMV080, the world’s smallest particulate matter sensor. This sensor is more than 450 times smaller than traditional PM sensors, seamlessly integrating into a wide range of devices while delivering precise, real-time air quality data for actionable insights. With its noiseless, non-disturbing operation and exceptional performance, the BMV080 sets a new standard in air quality monitoring.
At embedded world 2025, Bosch Sensortec will showcase the PurpleAir PIXEL, a USB-powered, ultra-portable air quality monitor built around the BMV080. Attendees can experience a live demo at Booth 4A-512, where Bosch experts will illustrate how this innovative device delivers real-time air quality insights in a sleek, easy-to-use design.
PurpleAir PIXEL: small, smart, and powerful
- Plug-and-play functionality: no setup required – simply plug in and monitor air quality instantly
- Compact and portable: easily carried in a pocket or bag
- Live air quality feedback: a built-in multi-color LED displays real-time Air Quality Index (AQI) updates at a glance
“The PurpleAir PIXEL is an excellent example of how Bosch Sensortec’s cutting-edge sensor technology is enabling innovative, real-world applications,” said Stefan Finkbeiner, CEO at Bosch Sensortec. “This collaboration demonstrates how we empower companies to create smart, user-friendly air quality monitoring solutions.”
