An increasing number of smartphones, tablets and other display-equipped devices integrate colour sensors to analyse the RGB components of ambient light for display image adjustment or perform backlight dimming based on the surrounding brightness levels.
To accurately detect visible light, conventional colour sensors require a transparent optical window. However, many display-equipped devices adopt dark optical windows, which make it difficult to precisely detect colours as less visible light gets through and the light that does permeate gets mixed in with IR rays.
The BH1745NUC is available now in sample quantities and will be available in OEM quantities from April 2015.
