Newbury Innovation, a sister company of Newbury Electronics, has agreed to sponsor the 2016-17 Bath Zero Emissions Motorcycle team. Consisting of 34 students studying engineering, the team will design and build a bike to compete in the Moto E season in the summer of 2017.

They are aiming to be the first university team to pass the 100mph average speed barrier for the Isle of Man TT Zero course and to improve on the two podium finishes achieved in last year's race series by their predecessors. Under the terms of the agreement Newbury Innovation and Newbury Electronics will work with the students and will provide PCBs up to a value of £500.

Nadia Domanski, Project Manager, said: “We are delighted that Newbury Innovation have agreed to work with us again this year. The combination of their experience and our ideas will hopefully make this year's bike the best yet.”

“These are the engineers of the future and as a company we are keen to support and encourage them with their projects. There is no doubt that both the students and ourselves benefit from the exchange of ideas and we are looking forward to tracking the development of the bike over the coming months,” said Jon Hawkins, Technical Director at Newbury Innovation.

MotoE is an official European Championship for electric motorcycle racers. Teams from the across the globe battle each other in five rounds within Europe for the privilege to call themselves the MotoE European Cup Champions. Electric superbikes have led the advancement of clean transport technology since the world's first fully sanctioned all electric race took place in 2009 during the Isle of Man TT races. MotoE follows in TTXGP, the eGrandPrix's footsteps and is a five round European championship cup.
