1200 V field stop trench IGBTs for solar inverters

Fairchild Semiconductor announce a new series of 1200 V field stop trench IGBTs which have been designed to meet the requirements of hard-switching industrial applications including solar inverters, uninterruptible power supplies, and welders. The FGH15T120SMD, FGH25T120SMD, and FGH40T120SMD IGBTs help power engineers achieve better efficiency and reliability in their designs.

Featuring a saturation voltage of 1.8 V (this is significantly lower than that of the previous fast-switching NPT IGBTs), the new 1200 V field stop IGBT series has minimal conduction losses. Containing a co-packed diode optimised for fast switching, switching losses are also low with an EOFF value of under 30 µJ/A. The new IGBTs also enable designers to operate devices at higher switching frequencies than competitive solutions. Reducing the size and cost of the capacitors and inductive components in the circuit, this creates system designs with higher power density, smaller size and lower bill of material costs.

In order to guarantee a larger safe operating area, the IGBT series is 100% tested for clamped inductive switching at current levels of four times the rated current. Supplied in the smaller TO247 package with 20mm lead-length (compared to the previous family's TO264 package), the FGH15T120SMD, FGH25T120SMD, and FGH40T120SMD IGBTs offer a 15, 25, and 40 A current rating, respectively.

With delivery 8-12 weeks ARO, the new RoHS-compliant IGBTS are available for sampling now. The 15 A FGH15T120SMD is priced at $3.30 (USD) in 1,000 quantity pieces; the 25 A FGH25T120SMD is priced at $4.65 (USD) in 1,000 quantity pieces; and the 40 A FGH40T120SMD is priced at $6.30 (USD) in 1,000 quantity pieces.
