The XL275 incorporates the same industry leading features as N2Power’s XL125 and XL160 power supply families, including active power factor correction for reduced input power, built in or’ing diodes, active inrush current protection and remote on-off.
In contrast to traditional analogue-controlled power supplies, the XL275 uses a dedicated digital microcontroller to supervise the unit’s operation. The microcontroller monitors DC voltage on the bulk capacitor (supplied by AC mains), output voltage, input voltage, auxiliary 12V output voltage, transformer temperature, ambient temperature and the fan tachometer. Unlike conventional analogue circuitry that can only provide timing accuracies in the range ±10-20%, the XL275 microcontroller can provide accuracies in the 1% range and does not suffer from stored charge memory. It responds to changing conditions 500 times each second with knowledge of the past, but without being slowed by its knowledge.
