TVS diodes limit peak voltage surge

Bourns Power TVS (PTVS) series of high current bidirectional TVS diodes are now available from distributor TTI.

Model PTVS6-xxxC-M are surface mount, high-current bidirectional TVS diodes that are designed for use in AC and DC power line applications.

Bourns offers a wide voltage range of devices with surge current ratings of 3, 6, 10 and 15 kA.

Surface mount devices are available with standoff voltage ratings up to 86V and through-hole up to 470V.

PTVS diodes are designed to protect electronic equipment against damage from high energy transients such as those from power surges and lightning strikes.

In a typical application, the device would be connected across the supply lines.

At high current levels, the PTVS diode provides a very rigid clamp which limits the peak voltage from the surge to a much lower level than an equivalent MOV.

The use of silicon technology in the Power TVS products offers lower clamping voltage under surge compared to competing MOV technology.
