TVS device protects USB interfaces on portable devices

A high-performance, low capacitance TVS device, which replaces multiple discrete components while providing complete VBUS surge and ESD protection for USB data and ID lines, has been released by Semtech. Measuring 2.0×1.8mm, the RClamp1255P has a capacitance of less than 0.5pF on D+, D- and ID pins.

The Pb Free and RoHS/WEEE compliant device is suitable for protecting USB interfaces in mobile phones, laptops and portable electronics. The RClamp1255P TVS device is available now, priced at $0.33 each and sold in 3,000-piece quantities.

“With increasing consumption of 4G data, consumers demand reliable solutions that enable them to stay connected to mobile networks. Robust ESD protection is more important to portable electronics manufacturers than ever before,” said Rick Hansen, Product Marketing Director, Protection Products, Semtech. “The RClamp1255P expands Semtech’s growing portable product family and offers fully integrated ESD and surge protection for USB 2.0 ports used on portable devices in a single easy to use package.”
