Steatite secures MoD contract to supply Lithium cells

Steatite has secured a major new order worth in excess of £100,000 to supply batteries to the Ministry Of Defence. The contract is for Electrochem size 2/5C, high rate lithium cells and was secured against strong competition

Steatite’s dedicated Battery Division offers comprehensive technical support and quality backed by over 25 years experience in supplying standard and custom battery solutions. The company has enjoyed a successful relationship over the same period acting as Electrochem’s only strategic channel partner in the UK. Steatite supports applications in a wide range of market sectors including those with particularly challenging operating conditions such as military, offshore oil & gas industries, aerospace and mining.

The high rate lithium 2/5C cells supplied for the new contract are housed in stainless steel containers and utilise advanced spiral wound technology and hermetic glass-to-metal sealing. A wide operating temperature range of -20°C to +93°C underlines their suitability for use in the most demanding applications.

Commenting on the new contract, John Lavery, Managing Director, Steatite Limited said: “This is a very significant and important contract for us to win. It underlines the core capabilities of Steatite that enable us to provide first-class technical application support backed by an industry-leading product range for designs destined for use in the most challenging operating environments.”
