Solyndra International AG today announced that Hermes, manufacturer and installer of waterproofing membranes and roofing systems, has completed a 750 KWp rooftop installation on the industrial plant of the Vitex Paints production facility in Aspropyrgos, Athens.
The project, commissioned by Yannidis Group, covers 78 % of the building’s 10.400 m² roof surface, generating 1,0110901 KWh annually, enough to power 145 homes. The 4,158 Solyndra panels were supplied by Pacific Renew Energy S.A, a certified Solyndra solution provider, and installed in just 56 days despite adverse weather conditions.

Yannidis Group CEO, Armodios Yannidis says that, “the project has been extremely cost efficient and furthers our sustainability goals and commitment to carbon neutral buildings. We are offsetting 950 metric tons annually over the next 25 years from this one rooftop. The installed capacity is 15 % higher than original independent estimates and addresses seismic issues prevalent in the region. The collaboration between teams has been impeccable throughout.”

The innovative cylindrical design of the Solyndra lightweight panels allows wind to pass through while capturing sunlight over its 360° thin-film PV surface. Solyndra panels do not require additional fixing or ballast in winds up to 130mph when installed within Solyndra’s guidelines, making for fast, efficient installation without compromising roofing structures. The panels can be positioned in any orientation with minimal impact on electricity generation. This helps building owners to get the maximum available surface coverage and energy yields from their roof-space.

Armodios Yannidis is impressed with Solyndra’s product and value proposal. “Solyndra offers a differentiated solution for every decision-maker looking towards a PV investment. If the design and offer for the turn-key solution is good, they will always make it to the shortlist of the three final candidates, given their superior rooftop design.”

Clemens Jargon, President EMEA of Solyndra, hopes that the project will be a cornerstone of a collaboration, which will build Solyndra’s presence in one of Europe’s most attractive markets. “We’re pleased to be able to help Yannidis Group to realize this Vitex installation. Bringing solar to the commercial rooftops of this city is a policy, which supports an environmental necessity – but it also makes strong business sense. Thanks to smart government policy, solar investments in Greece enjoy the highest feed-in tariffs of any country in Europe, which should drive strong growth. We are excited about the market here and look forward to working closely with Pacific Renew Energy and their partners in the future.”
