Manufacturer of DC/DC converters and AC-DC power supplies for industrial, railway, renewable energy and medical applications, MINMAX Technology, has released the MJWI30 series, isolated one by one inch DC/DC converter modules which provide a maximum power output of 30W.

The introduction of the MJWI30 enables designers of applications with a maximum load rating up to 30W to greatly reduce their power system’s size and weight.

The new module, which has a 1.0x1.0x0.4” encapsulated metal-shielded package with an insulated baseplate, supersedes the previous MINMAX 30W module, which is supplied in a 2.0x1.6x0.4” package. At 25g, the new module is barely half the weight of the earlier product.

The high power density of the MJWI30, at 75W/in3, is expected to make it popular with manufacturers of industrial, transportation and power generation equipment. The module is available now to customers throughout Europe via local channel partners, or globally from Future Electronics.

Achun Tsai, Global Sales Manager of MINMAX, said: “Customers today are always searching for a way to reduce the size of their product designs while maintaining high efficiency, accurate regulation and a stable output. The new MJWI30 delivers on all these fronts.”

The MJWI30 gives designers the flexibility to match the choice of converter to specific application requirements. Operating over wide 4:1 input voltage ranges of 9V to 36V DC or 18V to 75V DC, the product is available in versions with a fixed single output voltage of 3.3, 5, 12, 15 or 24V DC, or a dual output of ±12 or ±15V DC. Output voltage can be trimmed to ±10% of its nominal value.

Other outstanding performance characteristics of the MJWI30 include high conversion efficiency of up to 90% and low ripple and noise of 75mVp-p. The module’s efficiency is notable because it is stable over all rated conditions, including an operating temperature range of -40 to +80°C, and over the entire input voltage and load range.

The module also offers excellent performance in no- and low-load conditions. It has no minimum load requirement, and features a very stable feedback loop which means its output is free of oscillation even at light loads.

Designing for EMC compliance is also straightforward for users of the MJWI30 module. It is certified compliant with EN61000-4-2/-3/-4/-5/-6/-8 to class A. Achieving compliance with EN55032 class A and B only requires the addition of a few external passive components.

Isolation of 1.5kV protects sensitive circuitry from noise, and supports use in safety-critical applications. Typical start-up time of 20ms helps designers to eliminate the risk of system timing failures.
