Single-Cell Li-Ion / Li-Polymer Chargers in SOT-23 Packages

Microchip has announced its MCP7381X Li-Ion/Li-Polymer charge-management controllers. Offering programmable charge currents up to 500 mA, they feature integrated current sense, integrated pass transistor, thermal regulation and reverse battery protection, all in a 5-pin SOT-23 package.

Since they operate within USB output-power limits, the MCP7381X charge-management controllers can be powered via the USB ports on most PCs. The charge-enable input of the new devices provides a very simple interface for designers to use. The MCP73811 has a digital input and selectable USB charge currents of either 100 mA or 500 mA, while the MCP73812 offers a user-programmable charge current via an external resistor.

The new devices are ideal for a range of consumer electronic devices, such as rechargeable toys and low-cost MP3 players.
