Regulator series launched as Power Trends substitute

In order to fill the gap created by TI’s recent announcement to discontinue their Power Trends switching regulators (PT78ST100, 78SR100, etc.), RECOM are introducing a 1:1 compatible SMD product line. The R-78T series will help customers avoid costly re-designs who are still using Power Trends switching regulators.

Based on the R-78-family, the low profile “Open Frame” modules feature high efficiency of up to 95% and wide input voltage range of 7V to 42V. These features make the modules suitable for portable or battery operated applications requiring a space-saving device. Due to the regulators’ high efficiency, fans or heat sinks are not needed and they can be reliably operated at temperatures between -40°C and +85°C without derating.

The series delivers optional regulated 3.3V/1A, 5V/1A or 12V/1A in continuous operation, but can also handle peak currents up to 1.5A for 10s. The modules measure 23 x 27.2 x 10mm or 23 x 29.4 x 8mm and are pin-compatible with other 78 series SMD switching regulators and SMD TO-220 linear regulators.

The devices are supplied for fully automatic assembly optional in “tape & reel” or “tray” and are designed for the reflow soldering process. The warranty period is 3 years.
