Designed to help SoC integrators secure the operations of RF blocks, the nLR-Charny low-noise linear regulator has been released by Dolphin Integration. The device, which meets stringent low noise requirements, is suitable for use with a wide range of standard cells, memories and power regulators to meet the challenges of embedded low power voltage domains.

Alongside an intrinsic output noise of 20µVrms within a 20Hz-20kHz bandwidth, the regulator provides a power noise resilience better than 6dB, up to 10kHz. The device also offers ±3% DC accuracy, including line and load regulation. Embedded I/O-cells with ESD protection are featured on the nLR-Charny, together with a soft-start feature and over-current and temperature protections. To enable connection to a Li-Ion battery, the regulator is also provided with an over-voltage protection module.

To ensure a smooth integration within a Power Management Network (PMNet), the device meets the DELTA Standard, enabling optimal construction of the SoC. The benefit is a shorter time-to-market due to standardised and reusable regulation components.

Building a PMNet requires verification throughout. To enable this, the nLR-Charny is offered with simulation models that verify the adequacy of the PMNet in different operating scenarios. This allows the power supply voltage of each power domain to remain in the operating range of each load during the transition from one operating mode to another. Secondly, the noise generated on the power supplies by the various loads and noise sources across the PMNet do not degrade the performances of noise-sensitive loads. Lastly, this ensures that integration is properly structured and sized.

The regulator also features the PowerVision EDA solution, which provides simulation models as standard deliverables for each functional component of a PMNet, together with guidelines for facilitating their usage.
