Powersolve uses latest power modules as basis for new power supply design service
Powersolve is now offering customers the opportunity to specify custom, high performance power supply solutions based around the latest power module designs from several leading manufacturers including Astec.
Prod“The latest generation of power modules offer significant advantages over earlier designs” says Powersolve’s Managing Director Peter Clark. “They are more efficient, highly reliable and are capable of providing up to 700W from a very compact package. This makes them ideal as the basis for power supplies used in applications where the demand for high power is matched by the need to conserve space and deal effectively with the heat generated”.
“Our new custom design service has been introduced to help customers make the most of the benefits offered by these power modules” says Clark. “We are beginning to see interest from customers whose power needs cannot be met by a standard product. For some it is the lack of space, a common problem when the power supply is last on the designer’s list. For others it is heat dissipation where, for example, the power supply has to operate in a sealed enclosure for environmental reasons. A common theme, however, is the need to get as much power out of increasing smaller enclosures and this is the real benefit of power module based designs”. Adds Clark.
Typical of the modules used by Powersolve is Astec’s 600W AIF Series. This single output module features a power density of 6.6W/cm³ (108W/in³) and gives 600W continuous power at a baseplate temperature of100ºC. With efficiency levels as high as 90%, a wide 250 to 420VDC input range and industry standard pin-outs, the AIF Series is part of a large range of power modules available from Powersolve and is the ideal basis for a customer specific power solution.
