PowerPax offers a range of green power supplies which meet California Energy Commission (CEC) regulations that require the power used in stand-by operation to be below a set level. In the UK alone, equipment on standby produces a total of 3.1 million tonnes of CO2.

The standards apply to single-voltage external AC/DC or AC/AC power supplies, and among the specifications require a minimum efficiency and maximum standby power when unloaded. The efficiency level is calculated based on power levels. Maximum energy consumption in standby no-load mode must be 0.5W if the output is less than 10W and 0.75W if the output is between 10W and 250W.

The compliant ‘green-mode’ power supplies offered by PowerPax include 18W plug top and desk top power supplies as well as 40, 50, 65, 90 and 150W desk top switch mode power supplies and all meet or exceed the requirements.

The low standby power PSUs are very competitively priced and cost only around 5% more than the standard range of PowerPax power supplies.

As an example, the 18W PTD18G green mode switch mode power supply range has no load power consumption of less than 0.3W and efficiency is 77% typical. Dimensions are 88 x 50 x 34mm. MTBF is 50,000 hrs min at 25 degrees C at full load. The units have short circuit, over voltage and over current protection. Input voltage is wide range 90 to 264vac 47/63Hz via a 2 pin IEC320 C8 connector.
