A Wilkinson power divider, introduced by Knowles, provides in-phase power splitting or combining over a broad bandwidth. This is achieved by application of precision thin film fabrication with integrated resistors, coupled with high permittivity ceramic materials.

Allowing for easy integration, the PDW05758 provides broad band performance in a 4.06mm x 4.7mm surface mount package. Packaged MMIC based solutions and larger dividers integrated into the PWB can be replaced, without performance being affected.

DLI's proprietary ceramic substrates are utilised by the power divider. This allows for the design of the power divider without typical parasitic effects associated with MMIC base solutions, resulting in a broad band 6–18GHz operation. Throughout the band of operation, the return loss and isolation are typically 20dB or better, while the mid band insertion loss is typically 0.4dB.

The PDW05758 is suitable for applications in which PWB space is of particular importance. This is because the divider is significantly smaller than what could be internally designed in typical PWBs. A greater degree of consistency and repeatability over that of PWB construction is also achievable as the power divider is manufactured with traditional thin film processes. As the resistors are integrated internally and located with ‘thin film precision’, the amplitude and phase balance are superior to what can be achieved with traditional surface mount resistors soldered onto a PWB.
