Murata Power Solutions has launched a range of adjustable, non-isolated, Point-of-Load-Alliance (POLA) DC/DC Converters. The MPDTH series is available in a choice of 6A, 10A and 15A current ratings with nominal input voltages of 3.3VDC, 5VDC or 12VDC for each.
The new modules are ideal for supplying POL power to devices such as ASICs, FPGAs and DSPs in a wide range of multi-processor digital systems in applications including datacoms, industrial and medical equipment. A choice of both surface mount and through-hole packages are available; pinouts are identical with the through-hole version giving a slightly lower assembled height.

The MPDTH series achieves a high power conversion efficiency and has an operating temperature range of -40ºC to +85ºC. Output voltage ranges are 0.8V to 2.5V (3.3Vin modules), 0.8V to 3.6V (5Vin modules), and 1.2V to 5.5V (12Vin modules. Output voltages are adjustable and can be set by using a single external resistor.

Key features of the new RoHS compliant POLA modules include auto-tracking, pre-bias immunity start-up support, on/off control, output trim functions. Protection features including input under-voltage lockout, output short-circuit protection and output over-current and over-temperature protections. With the auto-tracking feature, powering FPGA with two different voltage requirements for core and I/O can be met with relatively simple circuit implementation.

Overall dimensions of the MPDTH series are 22.1mm x 12.57mm (6A versions), 25.27mm x 15.75mm (10A versions), and 34.8mm x 15.75mm (15A versions).

POLA, Point of Load Alliance, is a group that promotes multi-sourcing of pin-compatible, non-isolated, point-of-load power modules. It enables power supply designers to choose modules from any member with the assurance that they will provide identical functionality, performance and form factors.
