ON Semiconductor Releases Power Factor Correction Handbook

ON Semiconductor today announced the release of the updated edition of its Power Factor Correction (PFC) Handbook.

This highly informative publication serves as a valuable tool for engineers engaged in power system design. It looks at the fundamental theory behind PFC and the key considerations that need to be addressed when implementing power factor control. Various PFC approaches, such as Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM) PFC, Interleaved PFC, Bridgeless PFC, and Single Stage Isolated PFC are evaluated. This handbook will help engineers optimize their power system designs for specific application criteria, thereby enhancing overall power performance.

Content Includes:

* An overview of different PFC topologies: Critical Conduction Mode (CrM), Continuous Conduction mode (CCM), Frequency Clamp Critical Conduction Mode (FCCrM), Bridgeless, Interleaved, Single Stage

* Comprehensive analysis of PFC operating modes

* Detailed comparison between these different types of PFC implementation

“Power supply design is becoming increasingly challenging as demands for integrated power factor correction, higher active efficiency, and lower standby power consumption must be aligned with greater levels of functionality,” said Christophe Warin, ON Semiconductor’s AC-DC business unit manager. “Simultaneously, there is growing pressure for home and office electronics to comply with more stringent environmental guidelines, such as ENERGY STAR®. By employing the PFC techniques described in this handbook, OEMs will be able to realize major improvements in overall energy efficiency levels, and rapidly bring products to market that meet global performance benchmarks.

“ON Semiconductor has a strong commitment to providing optimal solutions for any given power supply requirement, and this is reflected in the wealth of technical knowledge that can be gleaned from this new publication.” Warin concluded.
