New Yorker Electronics has announced the release of a new series of wet tantalum capacitors by Vishay Intertechnology, featuring hermetic glass-to-metal seals.

These STH electrolytic capacitors are designed for avionics and aerospace applications, offering the benefits of Vishay’s SuperTan extended series devices, but with enhanced military H-level shock (500 g) and vibration capabilities (sine: 80g; random: 54 g), as well as improved thermal shock resistance of up to 300 cycles.

These newly released devices provide military H-level performance in a SuperTan series, presenting a cost-effective alternative to high-reliability wet tantalum capacitors. They maintain the high reliability needed for demanding mission profiles. The STH series is ideal for energy storage in various systems, including power supplies, actuators, transponders, and radio, radar, and missile systems, as well as oil drilling and underwater equipment.

Key features of these capacitors include high capacitances ranging from 470 µF to 1500 µF in the D case code, and standard capacitance tolerances of ± 20 % at 120 Hz and + 25 °C, with ± 10 % tolerances available. The STH series operates over a temperature range of -55 °C to +85 °C, extending to +125 °C with voltage derating. They also offer low Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) down to 0.50 Ω at 120 Hz and + 25 °C. Standard tin/lead (Pb) terminations are provided, with RoHS-compliant 100% tin terminations available as an option.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Enhanced performance with a high-reliability design.
  • Variety of terminations: axial, standard tin/lead (SnPb), and 100% tin available.
  • The STH series builds on the advantages of Vishay's SuperTan extended series, with improved vibration capability.

Applications:

  • Military and avionics sectors.

Samples and production quantities of the new STH wet tantalum capacitors are currently available from New Yorker Electronics, with lead times of 16 to 20 weeks for larger orders. New Yorker Electronics also supplies a wide range of Vishay discrete semiconductors, including diodes, MOSFETs, infrared optoelectronics, and passive electronic components like resistors, inductors, and capacitors.
