Multiphase Vcore system powers Intel Xeon processors

A multiphase Vcore power management system solution for enterprise servers, storage and high-end desktop applications, has been been introduced by Texas Instruments. This system is comprised of the TPS53661, TPS53641 and TPS53631 DC/DC controllers and the CSD95372B and CSD95373B NexFET smart power stages. Together, the VR12.5/VR12-compliant controllers and stages provide a digital multiphase solution to power the latest Intel Xeon processors.

A phase operation of  6-, 4- and 3- respectively, is supported by the TPS53661, TPS53641 and TPS53631 DC/DC controllers. TI’s advanced D-CAP+ control architecture and a feature-rich PMBus command set are also incorporated. The CSD95372B and CSD95373B NexFET smart power stages then integrate an intelligent driver and power MOSFETs in a compact 5x6mm package. The solution, TI claims, features an operating efficiency of up to 95% in the smallest footprint.
