MOSFET enables higher capacity lithium batteries

Offering superior protection for charging one- and two-cell lithium batteries, a bi-directional MOSFET has been introduced by Diodes Incorporated. The DMN2023UCB4’s low RDS(ON) reduces power while its thin chip-scale packaging saves space to allow increased battery capacity in consumer applications where size, weight and battery life are critical, such as smartphones, tablets, cameras and portable media players.

Delivering an RDS(ON) of less than 26mΩ, the DMN2023UCB4  has been designed to minimise on-state resistance for lower power loss. Its dual N-channel common-drain configuration suits the charging circuits required for one- and two-cell lithium batteries, which commonly use a low-side battery switch.

Other features include a gate threshold voltage of less than 1V to fully enhance the channel under low voltage operation, and built-in gate protection against ESD voltages of more than 2kV. Diodes Incorporated also offers the DMP2100UCB9, which provides a dual P-channel common-source MOSFET design, for applications requiring a high-side connection.

Supplied in a 1.8×1.8mm chip-scale package  with a thickness of less than 0.4mm, the DMN2023UCB4 and DMP2100UCB9 are priced at $0.25 and $0.35 each, respectively, in 10,000 unit quantities.
