ADL Embedded Solutions has announced the extension of the safety, controlling and logging functions of its PC/104 form factor power supplies. During the design or development of complex embedded computer or IoT solutions, it is a major advantage to developers and users to have as much accurate information as possible about the status of a system.

In the past, the main focus with regard to this was on the SBC or its peripherals. However, the basis for safe and stable operation of an industrial PC system is known to be in its power supply. For this purpose, ADL Embedded Solutions provides a controller chip (PIC) with a communication interface (USB and RS232) on its in-house PC/104 PSUs for reading out values relating to the status of the power supply and being able to configure additional features.

The ADL PSUs in the 'ADLPS104-150' model series can be configured using the in-house 'ADL PSU Settings Configurator' tool, with which it is possible to load predefined configuration files and evaluate logging functions and logs. The support engineers from ADL provide support for efficiently creating configuration files in accordance with customer requirements (e.g. switch-on behavior PS_ON Delay and the like).

"The goal is to give our customers a reliable tool for carrying out configuration and the possibility of debugging the system design if necessary. The reliable operation of any system starts with the PSU – and here the requirements differ completely from project to project, from operation in harsh environments to projects with high EMC loads. With ADL's new hardware and software functions on the power supplies with the PC/104 form factor and the associated tool chain consisting of configuration and logging tools, our customer achieve a previously unheard-of level of control and safety in the power supply area", explains Martin Kristof, Managing Director, ADL Embedded Solutions.
