Miniature 2W DC/DC converter meets medical safety standards

Murata Power Solutions has announced the MTC2 series of 2W single output, regulated and isolated DC/DC converters. Available with either a 12 or 24VDC 2:1 input voltage range and output voltages of 3.3, 5 or 12VDC, the surface mount MTC2 has a 3kVAC input to output isolation.

Measuring just 14.99×14.22×11.23mm (0.59×0.56×0.44″), the converter complies with both the UL/EN 60950 reinforced insulation safety standard for use in commercial equipment and the ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 medical safety specification with 2 x MOOP (Means of Operator Protection).

The output is regulated to ±0.5% of the nominal output voltage and an output voltage trim function permits adjustment of the output by ±10% to suit the needs of special applications. No additional regulation components are required and, with the 2:1 input range, the MTC2 is capable of accommodating applications where there may be wide deviations of the input voltage. A remote on/off pin is available to aid sequencing power start-up in a design or to enable application power saving features. A continuous short circuit protection function ensures that both the load and the device are protected from short circuit conditions.

Capable of operating at full output from -40 to +85°C, the MTC2 can operate up to +105°C with derating. No electrolytic capacitors are used in the design of the MTC2.

Ann-Marie Bayliss, Product Marketing Manager, Murata Power Solutions, commented: “With its UL/EN 60950 and ANSI/AAMI pending certification, the MTC2 offers enhanced product features from a miniature package.”
