Low cost reference design eliminates need for opto-coupler

The PMP11124 reference design from Texas Instruments uses the UCC28700 and TPS25810 to provide an isolated five volts at three amps over a USB type C interface. The UCC28700 implements primary-side regulation, eliminating the need for an opto-coupler and reducing the size and cost of the design.

Cost is further minimised by using an output diode instead of a synchronous rectifier.

Features

  • USB type C interface.
  • Minimal component count provides low cost solution.
  • Three amp capability advertisement on CC line.
  • Meets class B conducted EMI limits.
