The next generation of surface mount PulseChip LAN transformer and choke combinations from Pulse Electronics support high-speed Ethernet port connectivity with 90 W of DC power using PoE+ topology and a four-pair configuration.

They are available at authorised distributor DigiKey

The TCxG00 and TCxG001 series cover 1G, 2.5G, 5G, and 10GBase-T data rates with and without PoE functionality on the smaller core size, the latter supporting 60 W PoE+.

These are based on the industry standard 1812 (4732) core and sit on the universal six-pad PCB layout, making either series good alternatives to leading competitors’ parts.

While the higher PoE+ rated TCxG001P designs support 90 W, it uses a unique PulseChip size that also fits on the same PCB pad layout.

It is recommended that wider pads and tracks be used to accommodate the higher current on the cable side, as this helps to mitigate heat rise on the PCB and core.

To complete the Ethernet solution and improve EMC, the PE-0805GCMC series are specially designed, smaller 0805 (2012) chokes with matched impedance ranges for the selected data rates and support the high PoE+ currents without saturation.

Since the TCxG and the PE-0805GCMC have no polarity, they offer greater PCB layout freedom than conventional SMD toroidal LAN modules. The new series have excellent performance, especially for critical communications equipment where consistency, reliability, signal integrity, remote power, and isolation are needed in a small PCB footprint and height.

The TCxG001 is 4.7 mm x 3.2 mm x 3.1 mm, the TCxG00 comes in at 4.6 mm x 3.4 mm x 4.2 mm. The transformers provide 1500 VRMS galvanic isolation.

Operating temperature is -40°C to +85°C. Pulse says that fully automated production reduces variation in electrical performance

Applications include:

  • Ethernet LAN interfaces for industrial drives, laptops, switches, routers, and servers
  • Critical communications equipment, 5G and Wi-Fi® wireless access points, HMI, and transportation
  • Digital consumer and IoT devices where space and flexibility are needed
