Intersil unveils the ISL9113 single-cell boost converters

Intersil Corporation today introduced a family of boost converters delivering exceptional power density and efficiency. These new boost converters are ideal for single-cell Li-Ion powered products incorporating USB ‘on-the-go’ (OTG) capability.

Available with either a 5V fixed output voltage or an adjustable output, the ISL9113 is a fully-integrated synchronous boost converter that delivers an industry-leading current density of 460mA/mm2. Integrated 1.3A rated synchronous MOSFETs can deliver 5V at 500mA from a single-cell Li-ion battery. This capability is often required to power external peripherals attached to a smartphone’s or tablet’s USB port.

ISL9113 Features

• 1.8MHz switching frequency permits use of tiny, low-profile inductor and capacitors

• Low resistance MOSFETs deliver up to 95% efficiency to maximize battery life

• 20uA quiescent current delivers excellent efficiency under light load conditions

• Available in a tiny 0.8mm x 1.36mm WLCSP package or 2mm x 2mm DFN package

ISL9111 and ISL9111A

ISL9113 follows Intersil’s popular low input voltage, synchronous boost converters; ISL9111 and ISL9111A. Their integrated 1A rated synchronous MOSFETs can deliver 100mA from a single-cell alkaline battery. The ISL9111 and ISL9111A address both rechargeable and non-rechargeable battery applications. The ISL9111 includes an under-voltage lockout (UVLO) feature, internally disabling the converter below 0.7V input voltage to prevent over-discharging an attached battery. The ISL9111A has this feature disabled to maximize the usable life of a non-rechargeable single-cell battery.

Pricing and Availability

The ISL9113 is available now in a compact 2mm x 2mm 8-lead DFN package and a 0.8mm x 1.36mm 6-bump WLSCP. Pricing starts at $1.39 each in 6,000-piece quantities. The ISL9111 and ISL9111A are available in a 6-lead SOT-23 package with prices starting at $1.20 each in 3,000-piece quantities
