Infineon Technologies has unveiled its latest ISOFACE quad-channel digital isolators, enhancing its range of isolation technologies to serve automotive and industrial electronic systems.

These systems demand resilient, efficient, and accurate data communication to maintain superior functionality.

The ISOFACE quad-channel digital isolators come in two distinct series. The ISOFACE 4DIRx4xxHA series, which have AEC-Q100 certification, caters to automotive functions such as onboard chargers, battery management, inverters, and motor control. Conversely, the ISOFACE 4DIRx4xxH series, meeting JEDEC standards, is intended for industrial use, with applications spanning renewable energy, servers, telecommunications, industrial power supplies, and automation, as well as isolated serial peripheral interfaces. The units are presented in a 300 mil wide-body PG-DSO-16 package, harbouring four data channels that ensure elevated isolation levels for steadfast data communication in arduous conditions.

These isolators operate within a 2.7 to 6.5V supply voltage range, and despite their broad operating spectrum, they maintain efficient current consumption, maxing out at 1.6 mA per channel. This efficiency is upheld even at speeds of up to 1Mbps, with a 3.3V supply and a 15 pF load capacitance. Infineon's Coreless Transformer technology equips them with superior system noise immunity, with a common-mode transient immunity of a minimum of 100kV/µs, and an isolation voltage endurance of up to 5,700V rms.

The digital isolators are built to endure, particularly suitable for environments with extreme temperatures. Automotive application isolators perform within Grade I ambient temperatures, operating from -40 to +125°C. They are resilient to a variety of environmental challenges, including voltage transients, electromagnetic interference, electrostatic discharge, and other electrical disturbances, ensuring consistent operation. Their precise timing, characterised by low propagation delays and minimal channel-to-channel variation, reduces the potential for data corruption and upholds data integrity. Additionally, their pin-to-pin compatibility provides system stability, enhancing overall system reliability.

These isolators reduce signal noise across a wide voltage range, and their precise timing and compatibility traits facilitate designs with high power density. The certification at both component and system levels streamlines safety validations and accelerates market readiness, positioning the ISOFACE digital isolators as a strategic choice for robust and efficient electronic systems.

Product samples and availability

Infineon is currently offering productive samples for six variants of the ISOFACE quad-channel digital isolators, along with starter kits. The two remaining variants (4DIR0400HX and 4DIR0401HX), with a (4+0) configuration, are slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2023.
