TDK has announced the introduction of the QM8 series of AC-DC power supplies, extending the QM series of 700-1,500W modular power supplies to include up to 18 outputs. Having both medical and industrial safety certifications, the QM8 addresses a wide range of applications, including BF rated medical equipment, test and measurement, broadcast, communications and renewable energy applications.

The QM series operating efficiency is up to 91%, reducing internal heat losses, allowing the use of low speed, low audible noise fans for cooling.

This provides an enhanced patient/user experience and increased reliability. The QM series is covered by a seven year warranty.

Accepting a wide range 90-264VAC 47-440Hz input, the QM8 can deliver between 1,200-1500W output power. Available output voltages range from 2.8-105.6V and up to eight single or dual modules can be fitted. Optional standby/signal modules can be specified with a choice of one or two standby voltages (5, 12 and 13.5V at up to 2A), a PMBus communication interface and unit inhibit or unit enable, and an AC Good signal.

The units can operate in ambient temperatures of -20 to +70°C, derating output power and output current by 2.5% per °C above 50°C. Overall case dimensions are a compact 200x63.5x270mm (WxHxD), and the weight is between 2.3-3.4kg, depending on the module configuration.

The QM series is certified to IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60601‑1, ANSI/AAMI ES 60601‑1, IEC/EN 61010‑1 and IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60950‑1 with CE marking for the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS2 Directives. With an input to output isolation of 4,000VAC (two MoPPs), 1,500Vac input to ground (MoPP) and 1,500VAC (MoPP) output to ground, the series can be used in BF rated medical equipment.

The QM8 has a maximum earth leakage current of 300µA, while still complying with the EN61000‑6‑3:2007 and EN60601‑1‑2:2015 (curve B conducted and radiated) emission standards. The units also meet the EN 60601‑1‑2 and EN 61000‑6‑2 immunity standards.

An online configurator makes product selection extremely simple, giving an optimised module selection with a choice of signals, leakage current and standby voltages. Upon entering the desired output voltages and currents, the configurator will automatically produce a short seven‑digit code for easy order placement and quick dispatch.
