Torex Semiconductor has added to its dual LDO regulator line up with the introduction of the XC6416 and XC6419 Series. Available in an ultra small USP-6C package, which measures just 1.8mm x 2.0mm x 0.6mm, as well as the small SOT-26, these dual output devices meet the demands of battery-powered applications where small size and low power consumption are key design criteria. Typical applications include mobile phones, portable games, cameras, portable AV equipment and PDAs.
The new XC6416 dual LDO regulators incorporate Torex’s innovative GreenOperation (GO) technology. With this GO function, power consumption can be greatly reduced as the IC automatically switches from high speed mode, where power consumption is typically 28 µA per channel, to power save mode, just 5.0 µA per channel, when load current is small (1.5mA or less). The XC6416 device quickly returns to high speed mode once again as the load current demand reaches 4mA and above.

The output voltage for each regulator is factory set independently, and selectable in 50mV increments within a range of 0.8V~4.0V with minimum crosstalk. In addition, in the USP-6C package, the operation mode becomes user selectable via the package’s GO pin, so that the device can operate in either green operation mode or can be forced into a constant high speed operation mode thereby giving the user all the benefits associated with high speed operation.

The EN function of the XC6416 enables the output of each regulator to be turned off independently. In this state, the device turns on the internal switch located between the VOUT and VSS pins. This short enables an electric charge at the output capacitor (CL) to be discharged via the internal auto-discharge resistors, and as a result the VOUT pin quickly returns to VSS level.

The XC6419 on the other hand is a dual LDO where one of the regulators has a high 300mA output capability and the other a more standard 100mA compared to the 200mA per channel of the XC6416. Each output voltage is factory set independently, from 0.8V to 5.0V, in 50mV steps. Similar to the XC6416, the XC6419 features an EN function that can turn each output of the two regulators off independently and an auto CL discharge function. The high level output stability is maintained even during frequent load fluctuations, due to the excellent transient response performance and as VR1 and VR2 are completely isolated, crosstalk during load fluctuation is minimised. Power consumption is typically 28 µA for channel 1 and 23 µA for channel 2 which is greatly reduced in stand-by.

All devices within the new XC6416 and XC6419 Series from Torex are suitable for use with input voltages ranging from 1.5V~6.0V and operate within a -40°C to +85°C temperature range. The XC6416 features an ultra low dropout voltage of 95mV at 100mA, whereas the XC6419 is 115mV at 200mA (channel 1) and 115mV at 50mA (channel 2).
