Nu Horizons announces the availability of a range of point of load DC-DC regulators. Linear Technology's new generation of POL regulator modules include all the circuit components encapsulated in such a tiny size that they resemble a surface mount IC. These high-end point-of-load regulators are complete solutions containing the DC-DC controller, MOSFETs, inductor, input and output bypass capacitors and compensation circuitry in only 225mm2, maximising available board space. The single package regulator range also improves electrical and thermal performance.
Product highlights from the μModule range include the LTM4607 high efficiency buck-boost DC-DC µModule, and the LTM4604 low voltage, 4A DC-DC µModule with tracking.

The LTM4607 is a high efficiency buck-boost DC-DC module with wide Vin (4.5 to 36V) and Vout (0.8 to 2V) ranges. It can produce 5A DC (10A DC in buck mode) and has a high efficiency of up to 98%. Features include current mode control, a power output good signal, ultra-fast transient response and output overvoltage protection. It comes in a small, low profile surface mount LGA package measuring 15 by 15 by 2.8mm.

The LTM4604 is a complete standalone power supply with a wide input voltage range of 2.375 to 5.5V, and output range of 0.8 to 5V. Peak output current is 5A and the module features output voltage tracking. Ultra-fast transient response, a power good indicator, programmable soft-start and micropower shutdown are included in a tiny low-profile package measuring 15 by 9 by 2.3mm.

All μModules are overmolded in a solid array and individual units are saw singulated. μModule components are leadless with electrical connections being made through the land pad array.
