DC-DC power regulator operates at 73°C

In stock at Anglia Components is the Analog Devices Power by Linear LTM4700 step-down DC/DC power regulator.

It offers the energy efficient performance needed to reduce infrastructure cooling requirements such as those employed in data centres and other high power density industrial applications.

The LTM4700 is a dual 50A or single 100A step-down µModule (micromodule) DC/DC regulator featuring remote configurability and telemetry-monitoring of power management parameters over an open standard PMBus I²C-based digital interface protocol.

It boasts a highly integrated, component-on-package design which includes onboard memory, data conversion circuitry and digital interface, all housed within a compact, surface-mount 15mm × 22mm × 7.87mm BGA package, and it is nearly half the size of competing devices.

The device can be configured as dual 50A or single 100A output, the µModule’s innovative package technology means designers are able to increase the power density of their applications with minimal impact on system size and cooling costs.

Innovative heatsink packaging technology enables the module to operate at 73°C by comparison other similar modular solutions from competitors typically run at 90°C.

The LTM4700 can deliver full 100A at 12VIN to 0.8VOUT with 200 LFM air flow up to 70°C ambient temperature.

Peak conversion efficiency reaches 90% at 12VIN to 0.8VOUT.

The µModule architecture also enables system designers to combine up to eight devices.

This allows delivery of up to 800A of load current to meet the extreme power needs of the latest high performance processors, including FPGAs, ASICs, GPUs and microcontrollers.

The module operates from a 4.5V to 16V input range, with output voltages digitally controlled from 0.5V to 1.8V.

Integrated A/D converters, D/A converters and EEPROM enable users to digitally monitor, record and control power parameters using the I²C PMBus interface.

Switching frequency is synchronised to an external clock from 200kHz to 1MHz for noise-sensitive applications.

The LTM4700 also has self and load-protection features against over and undervoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature fault conditions.

A 2-wire serial interface allows outputs to be margined, tuned and ramped up and down at programmable slew rates with sequencing delay times.

Input and output currents and voltages, output power, temperatures, uptime and peak values are readable.

Custom configuration of the EEPROM contents is not required, at start-up, output voltages, switching frequency, and channel phase angle assignments can be set by pin-strapping resistors.

Analog Devices’ µModule regulators are ideal for addressing industry challenges associated with limited power supply design expertise, need for reduced PCB size, thermal design constraints, and increased time-to-market pressures.

Applications include cloud computing, high-speed computing and optical networking systems, communication infrastructure, and PCIe boards, as well as medical, industrial, and test and measurement equipment.
