DC/DC converter targets high density applications

Designed for high density applications with restricted space, the AVD85 family of 85W, 1/16th brick DC/DC converters have been unveiled by Artesyn Embedded Technologies. The high efficiency, fully regulated devices provide excellent thermal performance, high power density of 72.5W/in2 and a peak efficiency of 92%.

Providing an adjustable output voltage range with a 36-75V DC input range, the high efficiency of the 1/16th brick converters yields an almost flat derating curve to 85°C ambient temperature under forced airflow conditions (baseplate version). The 3.3 and 12V modules are the first voltage variants with the 5V to follow. Standard option include baseplate, open-frame, surface-mount or plated through-hole with different pin lengths and positive and negative enable options.

Andy Brown, Technical Marketing Director, DC/DC Products, Artesyn Embedded Technologies, commented: “The launch of the AVD85 brick family follows the recent announcement of Artesyn’s strategy to become the supplier of choice for board-mounted DC/DC power solutions. The AVD85 solutions are a part of the continuing enhancement of the product portfolio that will address the growing demand in the communications world for highly efficient power conversion with a lower cost of ownership.”
